Don't read this on an empty stomach

I had a dream last night that I woke up with a huge (and my first) belly stretch mark.  I was happy to realize it was only a dream.  I've actually been moisturizing like a fiend so hopefully some of that will be allayed.

26 weeks!  A few days until I'm officially in the third trimester!
Onto the delicious part of this post.  No, really, I wouldn't keep going if you're any kind of hungry right now.

Our three day weekend anniversary celebration was a huge success!  Brian even surprised me by coming home early from work on Friday which helped the weekend seem extra extra long.  A little background info for those who don't know our honeymoon story:  through a few unfortunate happenings we ended up having to spend the first night of our honeymoon (which was planned to be in Jamaica) in Des Moines.  It was extremely disappointing to say the least, but we made the best of it and it makes for a good story.  We opted to stay in a hotel downtown and do some things around the city instead of going back home.  So in celebration this weekend, we did some of the same things we did that day and also some things we did in Jamaica.

We kicked it off with dinner at Centro, the best (and my favorite) restaurant in Des Moines.  The food was delicious as usual, but the company was the best part.  Neither of us had been here (or any of the other places talked about below) since our honeymoon which made it a little more special.

Thanks to extremely cooperative weather, we started Saturday morning with breakfast and coffee outside, something we did each morning in Jamaica.  We also broke out our "fancy" dishes for the first time since getting them - a trend we continued through the weekend.

Overnight french toast with fresh blackberries and strawberries.  Soo good!

We then decided to make a homemade version of our wedding cake knowing that nothing could compare to the extreme deliciousness of a Shelly cake.  Cake is better than no cake though, right?  Our wedding cake consisted of a layer of lemon cake and a layer of vanilla cake with a layer of white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries in between and then covered in vanilla buttercream frosting.  Drooling yet?  We opted for boxed cake mix, but made our own white chocolate mousse and buttercream frosting.  The end result was large and extremely tasty! I think the best part was doing it together.  It was the first time in awhile that we cooked something new together - something we used to do a lot more when life wasn't quite so busy.

The finished product - two 9x13" cakes stacked on each other and smothered in deliciousness.

First pieces!
For dinner we made grilled jerk chicken, cilantro-lime rice, and fresh mango salsa.  As a small surprise for Brian, I had ordered the popular Jamaican grapefruit flavored pop, Ting (there was another unfortunate incident regarding trying to bring a few bottles of this home with us only to have to throw them out at Atlanta airport security - not a happy moment).  It was totally unexpected by him which always makes it more fun and was a great compliment to the meal.

Bubbly grapefruit deliciousness

Homemade mango salsa.  I think this is the first time we've used this dish, which is sad because it's so cute! It has a top that makes it look like a chili pepper - the "stem" is the spoon.

Dinner is served with a refreshing glass of Ting!

Sunday we had lunch at CABCO and then headed out to Prairie Meadows to watch/bet on a few horse races.  We steered away from the casino both times because it absolutely reeks of smoke in there no matter what area you are in.  Sadly, no big winnings for us, just a fun time to be together and enjoy the weather.

Monday we had breakfast at Drake Diner.  Brian and I don't go out for meals very often so it felt like we were doing something wrong by going out so much.  Neither of us had any complaints, though!  And yes, cake was consumed regularly throughout the weekend!

Today is our actual two year anniversary.  Looking back, it's obvious that it not only went fast, but also how extremely blessed we are.  I'm excited and scared for what this next year is going to bring us.

She LOVES her playtime with Dad.

Looking for the passage to Narnia?

Finally got around to framing and hanging our diplomas!

Look what I found in the garden yesterday!
Love,

P.S. Yesterday, by happenstance, I had Jimmy John's for the first time since our wedding day (I'm unconsciously continuing our weekend trend).  All I can say is, "WHERE ARE THE SPROUTS?!"  Since they haven't updated their menu I was fully expecting my sandwich to contain their best topping.  I was very disappointed when I realized the truth AFTER having paid for and tasting my sandwich. So. Lame.
