May already

There are a lot of things that people don't tell you about being pregnant.  Sure it's fun to read about baby being the size of a papaya this week and that I could start seeing stretch marks soon or that my belly button might start to pop out (*gringe*), but there are a lot of not so fun things, too.  Like how you have to be some kind of acrobat to go through normal shower routines or that sometimes you feel like the alien in your body.  For the sake of my male readers I'm not going to go into details, but aside from feeling baby moving around (I actually felt him flip the other night!) I hate being pregnant.  Since becoming pregnant, and the reality that I was going to have to push a human out of my body set in, I REALLY have not been looking forward to labor.  However, the more I read, the more it sounds like a cake walk compared to how I'm going to feel after having gone through labor.  Ugh. UGH!

On a less nauseating note, baby seems to be doing really well.  His kicks are getting stronger every day and Brian has been able to feel him several times now.  I'm looking forward to being able to actually see him move. We may have also decided on a name for him!  A couple months before we actually found out I was pregnant I had an overwhelming feeling about what I should name our son whenever we had one.  It was confirmed for me a few days later and now whenever I look at baby names nothing seems right and I feel like I'm doing something wrong by trying to find a different name.  It's weird, let me tell you.  Inevitably we will have a backup since there are potentially a few people close to us that are having boys, but I'm not looking forward to picking it out.  His name will be a secret though, so no pestering! =)

22 weeks - I am REALLY starting to pop.
Callie finally got to meet her "cousin" last weekend.  They literally played together NON-STOP.  It was exhausting just watching them.  The first day they hung out (Friday), tiny little Crumpet was in charge, but by Saturday Callie realized that she needed to be more aggressive with him and took over.  Callie was clearly missing Crumpet on Sunday as she wandered around my parents' house looking for him.  It's also a good thing that they're not actually cousins because Callie seemed to bring about Crumpet's realization of his boy parts.  He was so confused by it that each time he would start to hump he'd look down at himself like, "What is happening?!"  Hilarious.

Trying to get a break from Crumpet.
Chewing on the same toy.
Teasing Callie with her own toy.

Playing tug of war with each other!
We also went to look at cribs with my parents while we were up.  I can't decide if we're closer or further away from making a decision.  We're hoping to go look again this week and get it narrowed down.  We'll see.

In my last post I mentioned that I was becoming restless and hadn't heard anything back about the jobs I had applied for.  I'm still restless, but I heard back from two places yesterday!  The first was that I didn't get the job I applied for at the YMCA a bagillion years ago - turns out that was okay because it was a different location than their website made it seem (which is also probably why I didn't get it).  The second was a job with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).  The woman asked me a few questions via email and then said she would be contacting me next week for an interview!  I am particularly excited about this job because it's extremely close, has the hours I was looking for, and is also the job I wanted most out of the ones I applied for.  Thanks to all of you who have been praying about this for me, please continue to pray as I go through the interview process!

Love,
-K

PS It's MAY already!  This month we'll be celebrating our two year anniversary and the one year anniversary of being in our house, all while preparing it for a baby boy.  Life is amazing.

  1. Don't feel bad, no one likes pregnancy... they just pretend. ;) I never felt that connected to Jace when he was in my stomach, and I felt guilty for not being the poster pregnant person who was so happy go lucky and in love with the alien in their belly the second they got a "+" sign. But, how you feel while pregnant has no reflection on how you're going to feel as a mother. Everything falls into place once its OVER, and the real journey begins :)

Oh, and labor and the after effects... eh, it's not that bad. Don't read all the horror stories. My number one recommendation is to buy a belly bandit to wear immediately after birth. It will help your muscles go back and your skin go back, and after back labor it was a great source of comfort for me to wear it to help with the lower back pain. And hopefully you'll have a great support system those first few weeks... because "recovery" is tricky if you're not getting any help with the baby, or the housework, or the cooking, or whatever else. Don't worry, it will all work out and won't be as scary as it seems now :)

    1. Thanks, Katrina. It's definitely hard to connect with this little person inside me sometimes! I don't really feel bad about not enjoying pregnancy, mostly because it's how you feel about the outcome that matters and I'm definitely excited and looking forward to it!

I'm so glad you mentioned the belly bandit! I had been wondering if that was a worthwhile investment. I will definitely have family here to help me out while I recover. None of them can wait to meet our little one :)
