One Week Old

I can't believe Samantha is a week old already as of yesterday. She woke up just before 3am on Sunday morning to nurse and it struck me that exactly one week before I was waking up to realize I was in labor. Time needs to slow wayyyy down. Now.

One week old! HOW DID SHE FIT IN THERE?!
Like most newborns she sleeps A TON, with periodic awake periods. I'm quickly learning that she likes to be against my skin to fall back asleep and will often take a lot longer to fall asleep if she's not. She's a little bit of a night owl and doesn't usually settle in for the night until 11pm-midnight. Which would be fine if I didn't have a toddler who is very much a morning person. After that she goes back to sleep pretty quickly after nursing. Her nursing sessions are relatively short, usually around 10 minutes, I think partly due to my having a major oversupply right now and she's a very sleepy eater. It's a huge change from when James was a newborn, I remember consistent half hour long (or more) feedings in the middle of the night with him. She's a pretty decent sleeper but she's also EXTREMELY loud! She's actually super loud when she's sleeping and eerily quite when she's awake, often just contently staring if she isn't hungry. She's constantly making noises in her sleep, sometimes sounding like a little trumpet.  I don't foresee her sleeping in our room for too much longer so that I can better utilize what little time to sleep I actually have.

Just testing out the crib

Posing?

So snuggly.  Loves to have her hands under her head when she lays on my chest

The little feet I got to know SO WELL during my pregnancy.
Brian was able to be home this entire last week, with a few short periods of working from home and having to go in quickly on Tuesday. It was really sad watching him have to go back today. He and James spent a lot of time together while he was home which was awesome for me to be able to focus on baby (and myself) a little bit. Brian had been working quite a bit up until Thanksgiving so it was awesome for them to spend so much time together. I know James loved their bonding time and is already missing it. Already several times today he has said "Dada come back."  Hopefully things will settle down just a little at work for him and we can see him more. He also took the entire week of Christmas off so we have a lot more time together to look forward to.  His parents are coming to visit tomorrow which we are all really looking forward to as well.

Playtime with Dad is very different. I came downstairs one morning to see this.

"Hold baby?"

At the park with Dad! They like to come home and have hot chocolate and watch part of movie under a blanket afterward to warm up.

Playing "dress-up" in the hat and sweater that Grandma Sue made!
You guys. I can FINALLY smell my sweet little newborn!! The cold/flu sickness is still lingering in our house but is finally, FINALLY starting to get better. I can actually talk now without sounding like I smoke two packs a day. Sam has remained untouched probably thanks to nursing and my getting sick several days before her birth so my body had plenty of time to make antibodies to pass on.

Ugh I wish I could write down every single detail of each day because I never want to forget any of it. Hopefully the bagillion pictures I've been taking will hold a lot of those memories for me.

Love this sweet little angel face <3
Love,
-K
