One Month Update

Three years ago today we were, to our shock, telling our parents that we were pregnant after finding out just the night before. Now we have a 28 month old and a one month old! It's crazy how fast the time goes. What did we even do with our time before we had kids?  Seriously. I would like to know.

An update on the last month...

Samantha is now a month old. I kind of refuse to believe it. At her two week appointment she was already up to 8lbs 1oz, she had grown about an inch and her head had grown about a half an inch. Her next appointment will be at two months, by far my least favorite. According to our bathroom scale, she weighs close to 10lbs now but that's the difference of me weighing myself while holding her minus just my weight so it's probably not super accurate. She has stopped pooping often though, only about once a day now, (which is normal but also very weird) meaning she's probably using A LOT of what she's eating and my milk supply has been more than substantial. Sorry for all you non-parents out there who can't even understand why I would bring up poop. ;-)

She is a normal baby when it comes to night time sleep, waking up usually every 3-4 hours to nurse. She had a couple of amazing nights where she made it about 5 hours. It's crazy how much more rested I feel when the little sleep I do get comes in bigger chunks. Sometimes she falls right back to sleep, sometimes it takes a little while. Usually not much longer than an hour.   She loves to nurse to help put herself to sleep. She will take a pacifier once and awhile but not very often, and Brian usually has better luck getting her to take it than I do. She has GIGGLED three different times in her sleep. Be still my heart. I'm looking forward to when she starts laughing and smiling socially instead of just in a dream state. We are starting to transition her to her crib at night time which is going well but I'll miss the convenience of not having to get out of bed to get her.

Sam is slooowly starting to be awake a little more and is definitely more alert when she is awake. She has almost grown out of her newborn clothes and I've been keeping her in disposables a little longer just so she can wear the outfits a little longer. It bums me out packing up clothes they don't fit into anymore.

Such a little peanut! This was by far the tiniest outfit I had for her <3

Love those cheeks!

Sleep smiles

Cuddle bug

First time wearing her! She was in the ring sling at church to keep the sickies from touching her :)

I love J's foot in the shot too

She definitely prefers to be held while she sleeps, though sometimes she will nap in the swing.  Easiest way for me to get stuff done is to wear her if she doesn't want to be set down.

A quick update on J...

Two new favorite words of his: delicious and incredible. He uses the phrase "No.Stop it." quite a bit. I love that he has the vocabulary to express when he doesn't like something and can tell you so. It's SOO important to be able to respect their boundaries in this way, especially physically (tickling, etc). I'm trying to get him to say "no thank you" a little bit instead because it sounds a little nicer.

He has been doing pretty well with Samantha but still gets jealous sometimes. Brian has been home a lot this month, plus people visiting, which has helped James get a lot of one-on-one time.

Taken by James. He LOVES taking pictures now that he has learned how with our phones.

My babes, Sam is 2.5 weeks here.

Blurry but cute family shot

Snuggle monster!

He is still fighting naps sometimes but often falls asleep anyway. We've found him asleep on the giant bear in his room several times now. I hate that he tries to fight his naps, but it's pretty adorable finding him like that.

James FINALLY had his first haircut on the 28th courtesy of me! I was a little nervous but thankfully curly hair is very forgiving so even if it's not perfect it will be hard to tell. He was a little fidgety but otherwise did great. I'm very happy with how it turned out, a little more tame but still lots of curls. :)

Overall, we are tired but surviving. The house is a mess but I'm still using nap time (when they both cooperate) to sleep a little when I can. My sleep deprivation is very evident in my lack of writing skills in the last couple posts. Hopefully that improves soon! For now we'll just hope the coffee does it's job and keeps me going. Every morning I'm thoroughly convinced that coffee was invented specifically for moms raising tiny humans.  And thank God for it!
