Vacation, more bump, and gender coming soon!

We didn't get a 16 week bump picture in because we were on vacation and it was sort of left forgotten.  We spent a week on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky with Brian's parents, grandma, aunt and uncle, and some cousins and their kids.  It was a fun trip but WAYY too much driving.  I kept saying that now was the time to do it before I got super pregnant and before we had two kids to keep entertained for hours on end in their car seats.  Ironically, I used the "now's the time do it" in regards to car travel before James was born, too!  Some pictures from vacation:

He ended up like this at some point almost every day we were there, it was hot and humid and he was go, go, go!

First time using the life jacket

He was not a fan of it

Having fun splashing :)

Lots of water play to help stay cool

Casey and James

Dinner tastes better right out of grandpa's hand

Headed out on the boat

A view of the dock of the place we were staying

This picture makes me laugh every time. Callie was clearly enjoying herself.

Over the last couple days I took some time to read through my old blog posts from when I was pregnant with James. First of all, what a completely awesome thing to have.  Second of all, I can't believe how similar my pregnancies have been, not necessarily my symptoms (which has been very similar, just a little worse this time around) but my feelings about a lot of things as well.  Like the comment I mentioned in the first paragraph, or that at about this point in my first pregnancy I was starting to be annoyed with certain things becoming more difficult (like bending over or shaving), or that I was a little nervous for that 20 week ultrasound just like I am this time.  The ultrasound is in TWO days! We get to see how our little one is growing and find out the gender!! It seems like it went a lot faster getting to this point than it did the first time.  We are SOO looking forward finding out and sharing if it's a boy or a girl!

I've been thinking a lot about things lately, like how I feel like this pregnancy doesn't seem like "as big of a deal" as it did the first time, after pondering this for a little while I think it's just because I've had less free time to really think about and focus on it, chasing a toddler around all day doesn't leave much time for daydreaming!  Plus there's less to do this time around for baby, no registry to make or baby showers to prepare for.  Knowing myself like I do, though, I'm sure in the last half of the pregnancy it's going to become a VERY big deal.  I'm going to go into crazy OCD nesting mode and probably have about 18 lists of things I want/need to get done before baby gets here.  I guess I should enjoy the "it's not that big of a deal" phase while I still can.

You want to know something crazy?  Sometimes I miss how my/our life was before we had James. It's really hard sometimes, thinking about the "freedoms" we had when we didn't have a kid(s) to worry about.  I absolutely in NO way ever regret having James or getting pregnant with this baby, sometimes I just miss the way things were. It doesn't make me wish things were different or make me love my life any less.  It's normal to miss things sometimes.  But do you know what's really crazy?  I know that someday, when our kids are a lot older, and probably out of the house, and I have most of those "freedoms" back that we had before, I'm going to miss how my life was before that point, the life we have now (and will have for many years to come) of kids running around the house and getting up early to play with them and snuggling up and reading with them before bed instead of staying up late and going out.  Okay, hormonal pregnant lady over here is tearing up typing this so I'm going to stop here.  But I guess this is my reminder to myself and to you that sometimes it's okay to miss things, but we can't get stuck dwelling on them.  We need to soak up right where we are in life because one day we will wish we could have it back, if only for a little while.

So to keep you busy while we all excitedly wait for the gender announcement of Baby S #2, here's an update of how the last few weeks of my pregnancy have been. I'm currently 19.5 weeks pregnant, I'm sure they will tell me I'm measuring further along than that at the US, but we shall soon see!

 17 weeks

17 week bump!

17 weeks in 2014 compared to 18 weeks in 2012, looks like my belly is back on track (total coincidence that I happened to be wearing the same shirt)!

This was taken at about 17w2d pregnant! An update on how things are going:

Weight: I have recently started gaining weight. I've gained about 3lbs in the last couple weeks, which puts me at about 1.5-2lbs under my prepregnancy weight still.

Symptoms: Still experiencing headaches and nausea but less frequently and some days are worse than others which I think is also related to how much sleep I've gotten.

Sleep: Vacation was brutal sleep-wise. James woke up extremely early every. single. morning. So I was totally and completely drained by the time we got home. Thankfully I've gotten 9 and 10 hours the last two nights and I feel a lot better. Hoping I can stay on a good streak of going to bed early!

Cravings/aversions: Not really craving anything but my hunger levels have definitely increased the last couple weeks. Nothing major, just getting hungrier a little more often now.

Workouts:
I did my first intentional mini workout today - took Callie and James for a walk with a stop at the park, and even ran a little bit on the way home. Pregnant running makes me feel like I have to pee the ENTIRE time which is annoying but I'm looking forward to easing my way back into my workouts!! Things are looking WAYY too soft these days!

Movement:
I'm pretty sure I've started feeling very small movements over the last week or two, but I would have NO idea if I hadn't been pregnant before and known what to pay attention to.

Gender: we find out later this month!!

18 weeks

18 weeks, please excuse my I just woke up 5 minutes ago hot mess look.

18 weeks already (almost halfway!) and sometimes I feel 8 months pregnant! Yikes, I still have quite a ways to go before that happens.

Weight: Still gaining weight, sitting about 1 lb under my prepregnancy weight now. So I have gained about 4 lbs in the last couple weeks.

Symptoms: Nausea and headaches but only occasionally. My abdomen has been achy for the last couple weeks, probably since baby is now in it's peak weight-gaining period (months 4-7). Some days it feels as though my body has never done this before. I don't remember being quite so achy during my first pregnancy.

Sleep: Sleeping a lot better lately. No more allergies and waking up a lot less often throughout the night

Cravings/aversions: Nothing new really, just trying to satisfy my hunger cravings.

Workouts: Nothing major the last week but have done a few small things like a bike ride and short walks. I don't really consider those workouts though because that wasn't their intent. When it's main purpose is a workout I intend to get sweaty!

Movement:
Feeling definite movement/kicks the last week or so. I'm looking forward to them getting stronger so Brian and James can feel them

19 weeks
19 weeks.

One of these weeks I'm going to take a morning and night picture of the belly because it's crazy how much it changes throughout the day.  This was at the very end of a long day (3.5 hours of it spent in the car) and my belly looks noticeably larger here.

Weight: About 1/2 - 1lb below my prepregnancy weight. For comparison: I'm sitting just slightly less than where I was at this point in my first pregnancy.

Symptoms: My nausea hasn't completely gone away which is frustrating. I still get it once a day at least a few times a week. Baby is sitting somewhat low so I'm getting lots of bladder pressure. And frequently tired in the afternoons.

Sleep: I wake up a lot sometimes, but overall sleeping well. My dreams have hit a whole new level of weird.

Workouts: The tiredness hits me right around nap time and sometimes the nausea does, too which is making my most convenient time to workout really inconvenient. It's frustrating. I really, really want to start back into my routine.

Movement: lots of baby kicks, especially the last couple days. It's especially strong when my bladder is full, I'm sure because it squishes baby's current occupied area. I have had a couple kicks that I've actually been able to feel with my hand but baby hasn't cooperated for Brian yet.

Gender: we find out on Friday!!! I'm SO excited (and still a little nervous)!

Baby is kicking it's excitement to make it's gender known as I finish editing this!

Love,
-K
