Baby S is a...

We are so, so excited to announce that baby is a girl! We had our 20 week ultrasound appointment yesterday where we got to see that all of baby is looking very healthy and active! Baby was being very shy about sharing her gender with us, she actually had her knees together and her ankles crossed for quite awhile.  I ended up having to get up and use the restroom to see if that would cause baby to switch position.  It ended up working just enough for us to see.  I have felt that this baby was a girl since soon finding out that we were pregnant, but I've tried to force myself not to focus on one gender over the other so that I wasn't expecting anything going into the ultrasound.  As we got to marvel at our little peanut while the tech checked baby out, I couldn't help but be reminded so much of our 20 week scan with James and I quickly started expecting her to tell us it was a boy. When baby finally cooperated and she took the picture of baby's gender parts, I realized before she said it but it wasn't until she said that words "It's a little girl" that I immediately started crying silent tears of joy.  I hadn't really cried since finding out about this pregnancy and I made up for it yesterday!  Oh how much more real it now feels!

I truly believe that I would have cried no matter what the gender of the baby happened to be.  It's such an intense feeling to finally know after so much wonder and anticipation.  I keep saying to Brian, "I can't believe it's a girl!" but again, I think I would be saying that if it were a boy, too.  It feels so crazy to finally know!

Baby girl spent a lot of time with her left (I think) hand in front of her mouth during the ultrasound and showing off her long, stretched out (runner - as Brian likes to hope!) legs.  The midwives have suspected that I may have an anterior placenta since they had a lot of difficulty finding baby's heartbeat in the first couple appointments, and it was confirmed that I do at the ultrasound.  This creates no extra issues or problems, it just may be awhile before I feel kicks in the front of my stomach since there's a little extra "padding" there from the placenta.  Instead, I have been feeling a lot of kicks mainly in my side and lower abdomen. She is a very active little girl!  She must take after her brother.

She was having fun showing off her long legs, enjoy the room while you have it, little one!

We have had several people comment about "having one of each", and while I have always wanted at least one of each gender, that doesn't necessarily mean "we can be done" as some people like to assume.  We are definitely open to the possibility of having a third child but don't plan on making a decision either way for quite some time. For now we enjoying the thought of having a sweet little girl, created especially for us.

We DO plan to keep her name a secret until she is born, so please don't ask. =)

Love,
-K

  1. Congrats again! We are keeping our baby girl name a secret too... Wonder if its the same ;) I'm sure having both gender is awesome and I'm excited but I also love having two of the same. But yes people assume if you have both you stop at two and if you have two of the same you have a third lol!

    1. Well right now it's not because we aren't even close to choosing a name yet! I don't like talking about it until we know the gender. =) I know at least 7 people who are pregnant right now and due late August- late November so hopefully no one uses a name we decide on ;)
