We'll get there

Some days are better than others.  While that is true pretty much regardless, it's the basic definition of my life right now.  More like some nights are better than others, although this inevitably has a large impact on the quality of my day.  James still doesn't have this whole sleeping well thing down yet.  For the most part he goes down around 8pm and gets up for the day around 8am, which is great, but it's the time in between there that's all messed up.  He's not consistent in how long he sleeps for.  Lately he wakes up about two and a half hours after going down wanting to eat again.  Sometimes he has a couple four hour stretches after that, sometimes he sleeps four hours and then only two again.  Like this morning.  Except this morning he decided he didn't want to go back down after waking up at 5:30.  Thank God we decided to go to bed shortly after he did last night or I would be yet another day behind in posting this update.  He throws these little teasers in, too.  Last week he had three nights in a row where he slept for six hours or more in a single stretch.  He did wake up in the middle one night but put himself right back to sleep within just a few minutes (I swear I heard angels singing in that moment).  So naturally here I am getting my hopes up that he might be starting to sleep better.  Clearly this morning is yet another indication that I am very, very wrong.  Saturday night was the worst.  He slept two and a half his first stretch and three his last stretch and in between was a string of one hour stretches.  I blame his four month shots for that, but it doesn't make it any less tiring.  We'll get there.

Most peaceful face ever.

Like I said, some days are better than others.

James had his four month appointment last Thursday (originally scheduled for the beginning of the month, much closer to the four month mark but he was rocking a cold for a few weeks so I delayed the appointment).  Our little man is up to 16 lbs and 26.25 inches long.  Nearly double his birth weight and six inches longer!  Amazing.

Doctors office - before the shots.

He clearly got those cheeks from his mama.

He is so much fun these days.  He rolls over constantly, greatly enjoying his tummy time as he can now push himself up with his arms and look around as long as he wants.  He LOVES sitting up.  We are about ready to retire his bouncy seat because almost every time he's in it he's trying to pull himself into a sitting position.  The boy has abs of steel, for an almost five-month-old, anyway.  I've been predicting for awhile now that he's going to be sitting on his own easily before six months.  It's amazing how quickly he is progressing.  Now if only his sleep would follow suit!  He brings so much laughter and joy to our lives.  It's hard to remember what we did before he was here.  We are so extremely thankful to have such a happy baby.

What a little cheese ball

So happy

This just cracks me up every time.

Say whaaat?

Callie was spayed on Monday of last week.  Everything went great and she's recovering very quickly.  She was VERY out of it on the day of the surgery but has been much more herself since the anesthesia wore off.  She is not allowed to exert herself until the vet okays her at her 10-14 day checkup and that is hard on both of us.  She REALLY wants to play and exercise and I really want to be able to do that for her but I don't want to deal with the consequences of prolonging her recovery time.  So now she just follows me everywhere hoping for a tiny chance at playtime and resorts to whining and going on a hunger strike when she doesn't get it.  We'll get there.

Brian will be going out of town for three nights this weekend for work.  All I can say is he will be very, very missed and there will likely be wine in my near future.
