If you've never had to do it, you should hope you never have to dethatch
your lawn. Brian and I have done it twice now, once last fall and
again this past weekend. I will admit that the electric dethatcher we
bought makes it a lot easier, but it still doesn't get you out of having
to rake the entire yard. And bag it. It's easier if you look at it as
good exercise and a good way to get your first
suntan sunburn of the season. Here's to hoping that it was worth it!

I talked about making delicious hash brown egg cups. I made them again
last weekend and remembered to take a picture this time. They look a
little different because I forgot to add the sausage until I stuck them
in the oven. Still just as tasty! |
As far as I can tell, gummy bear is still growing and doing fine. Still
haven't felt any more kicks yet, but I'm not worried. It's still
early, especially since this is my first pregnancy. At my Ob/Gyn
appointment at the end of February the doctor was very excited that I
had yet to really gain any weight since it's not really necessary in the
first trimester. However, at my appointment a few weeks ago he told me
I needed to start eating Dairy Queen more. Okay, not really, but
that's how I chose to interpret it. He basically said that I should
start gaining some weight - not overeating, just making sure I'm eating
enough. This hasn't been a problem since I started feeling better and I
am amazed how fast the scale started going up. I know that baby and I
will go through "growth spurts" and that between now and about seven
months is the biggest gaining period, but it's still crazy to see it and
not have to be concerned. I've gained around six pounds so far. Not
really a lot overall, but it is when you consider it all happened within
about 3-4 weeks. My goal (yes, I may in fact be a tiny bit crazy) is
roughly a pound a week from here on out.
So with
all this weight gain and my belly really starting to pop,
I finally bought my first real maternity clothes yesterday! I have to
admit it was really nice to put on clothes that "fit" properly. That
giant elastic band on my pants is definitely going to take some getting
used to, though. Being pregnant is so weird.

| 18 weeks. Would you look at that, my hair actually isn't all over the place. |
After shopping last night, Brian and I met up for dinner at a
restaurant next to his office. While the pizza we shared was really
good, I don't think either of us is going to be eating there again
for a very long time
ever. Brian felt extremely, painfully sick as soon as we got home. I
felt fine until 3am when I woke up in what I'm pretty sure was the worst
pain I've ever had in my life. I actually considered going into the ER
because I was worried something was wrong with the baby. We both ended
up feeling better but are still a little in the recovery stage. No
bueno.
And onto happier things, Brian and I will be heading to IL tomorrow for a
quick weekend with family, showing off the bump and Little Miss Crazy
Face. Here's to hoping she does well on the car ride. If only she knew
she was soon going to be in a backyard full of birds and squirrels.

| Her face gets all scrunched up and makes her look Asian when she goes down the stairs. |
 |
| Totally asleep. Notice the tongue sticking out. |
 |
| I was not aware that my oven needed cleaning but she was happy to help. |

| So. Dang. Cute. |
As I'm sure you're well aware, this Sunday is Easter. As a strong
believer and follower of Christ, it kills me inside to watch people
"celebrate" this time but don't even believe it/understand it/care about
it. This is the day that Christ died for you and everyone else in the
world so that if you so choose, you may spend eternity with Him in
heaven. Our happiest moments here on Earth are the worst it will be for
us in heaven. How mind-blowing is that? Being a "basically good
person" isn't enough, it isn't even as hard as that. It's simply
choosing Jesus to be your savior. What hurts the most is watching all
these wonderful people in my life, especially family, who I love so
so
much and know they would do anything for the people around them, and
know that if something doesn't change I won't be seeing them in heaven.
It just completely breaks my heart. If you have questions about any of
this please don't be afraid to ask, whether it's to me or someone
else. You can ask about my faith as well, even if it's anonymously.
"For I know the plans I have for
you,"declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans
to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and
pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when
you seek me with all your heart." - Jeremiah 29:11-13
Love,

Thanks for being so open and honest with your faith on your blog. When I blogged I was open and honest with my faith but not a lot of people would be.
ReplyDeleteI have the same fear Kayla, that I won't see my family in Heaven. It breaks my heart as well. Glad we share that, but not something that is fun to share because of the result in the end! :(
P.S. What restaurant did you eat at? You need to tell us all so we don't eat there and get sick too! :(
We went to Felix and Oscars. The weird part is that he gets it catered in at work every so often and we've eaten there a few different times without any incident. We're thinking there may have been something on our salads (like they didn't rinse the lettuce) because there was nothing on our pizza that could have made us sick.
