My birthday is also coming up this Saturday. Birthdays are the best. They really are. I love celebrating them and making people feel special on their day. I've been hurt a lot on my birthday in the past and I never want anyone close to me to feel like that on a day that is supposed to be happy for them. For the first time since going to college nine years ago (NINE YEARS AGO?!?!) I will get to see my immediate family on my birthday. Even my brother is making the trip down which makes it even more awesome. I don't really have much planned other than eating some good food and spending time with people I love. That's a pretty awesome present in itself. =]
Some other things that are contributing to my happiness level right now include, but are not limited to, ordering a new washing machine. You guys. Words cannot describe my level of excitement and relief over this. We have a perfectly fine washer, it's an HE front loader with a lot of features, but it is absolutely not conducive to washing cloth diapers and quite frankly has made the washing process a giant pain in the you-know-what. Also, the previous owners (it came with the house) did not take very good care of it and the seal on a front loader can get pretty disgusting if not attended to. So this washer has been on my bad side since we moved in, cloth diapering only made it WAY worse. The dryer and I don't get along either, but that's much more manageable so we're saving our money and keeping that for now. Today is the last day I will have to wash diapers in this machine and I'm almost tempted to throw a party in celebration. The. Last. Day. My level of joy just rose again.
Also included on my happiness list is steadily losing weight again, it has not been easy let me tell you, but my body and I are FINALLY on the same page again (probably the hormone thing again - can I get my full head of pre-pregnancy hair back too instead of all these baby hairs everywhere from losing so much hair after pregnancy??). And the lawn is green, okay the backyard is green, I'm working on the front yard. I know that sounds silly, but I'm telling you when you're a homeowner and your lawn is in the best condition it has been in since moving into your house, there is a sense of contentment that settles over you. Don't question it, just enjoy it.
My high school friend, Lindsay, has been in Africa with the Peace Corps for the last two years. I got to see her briefly last year on a trip home, but she's home for good now and will be visiting next week! It will be her first time meeting James and we'll get to catch up and have girl time which I'm EXTREMELY excited about. Our relationship has had a lot of ups and downs but I think we've talked more during the last two years than we have in the seven before that. Our relationship definitely stronger for that so some face to face QT will be really nice.
And of course James. Every day I think to myself: how is it possible to love this kid anymore than I already do? And then something happens, even just him laughing, and I realize that somehow there's still room to love him more. Brian and I got to experience one of those moments together yesterday:
I was holding back tears the entire time. I have said before that when James finally walks he's going to try it and just suddenly do it and that's exactly what he did. Early yesterday morning he took about three steps and by early afternoon well, you see what happened. Thinking about this still gives me butterflies. Our son can walk! He's obviously not a master yet, but he is definitely trying. Sometimes I just think my heart might burst from it all, and yet somehow there's always room.
James will turn one in just under two weeks (the 30th). We are celebrating with my side of the family this weekend and will celebrate with Brian's family next weekend as we will be in town for a wedding. So. Much. Happiness. Here's a quick update on other things going on with James:
- The kid can put food away like nobody's business. A LOT of food. You put a bunch of food in front of him, turn away for a second, and look back to see it ALL gone and he's ready for seconds or thirds. I'm not even sure how he does it sometimes.
- He still doesn't sleep through the night. It's probably the one thing that I didn't expect/anticipate/prepare for was him STILL not sleeping well. We're working to change that. Hopefully I'll have good news on that front soon.
- We were all supposed to go to IL at the beginning of August for a wedding but it ended up being a trip for just Callie and Brian. James ended up getting roseola so we stayed home and my parents came down for a night to help me out a little bit. He was such a champ about it but it was definitely a good thing that we stayed home.
- He's getting closer but still no talking yet. Hopefully I will have news of his first word in the next update!
- James has learned how to give kisses. Granted he doesn't have the whole pucker thing down yet so it's total open mouth but it's still adorable, slobbery, but adorable.
More happiness:
So. Stinking. Cute.
Scrunchy face!
Morning baby yoga. With props.
Yoga tricks.
Poor sick babe :(
Callie was clearly uphappy about how boring our yard is after being and Grandma and Grandpa's for a weekend.
On the hunt.
Apparently Brian and J have a unique way of communicating. Boys are weird.
How do you make it giddyup?
See, mama, I don't need a bib!

P.S. Sorry to all my facebook friends who I taunted last night with a very vague post about this blog. I was just SO HAPPY but wanted to share this the right way. Hopefully it was worth the wait.
What a great update! Sounds like things are going great and James is getting sooo big! :) so happy everything is going well for you two! Enjoy the new washer.
