I can't believe it's already been a month since my last post. I can't believe it's mid-April already, though our endless winter doesn't help either. There is a moderate risk for severe thunderstorms today in the plains and a chance to see some snow here tomorrow night. All I gotta say is we better have a ridiculously amazing summer, whenever it decides to get here. I'm thoroughly enjoying the thunderstorms we're getting now-April is truly living up to the old adage of April showers bring May flowers.
I was planning on giving an update about how the last week and a half hasn't been the greatest because James is sick, I'm sick, he's not sleeping well, blah blah blah. I've had two friends (if that's what you can call people you stayed in touch with from high school via Facebook but rarely talk to) experience some major stuff with their babies last week that instead I'm reminded of how incredibly, undeservingly blessed I am. One lost her two month old to SIDS and the other had to take her two month old in for emergency surgery on his intestines. I. can't. even.
In light of that, my complaints disgust me. So here are some of the happy things going on with us lately:
CRAWLING! We officially have a crawler! He's been at it for about a week and a half now and he's practically a pro. Every once and awhile he doesn't coordinate correctly and he gets ahead of himself so he does this little bunny hop to reset. You can just hear his little brain: come on, butt! Keep up! The things that really get him moving are practically anything that isn't a toy. Unless they're Callie toys. He figured out where we were "hiding" her bucket of toys so that had to get moved...again. He's a smart little cookie.
Peek-a-boo: For awhile now James has been playing peek-a-boo with us. He pulls something over his face (e.g. a blanket, clothes that are nearby, a large toy he may be holding) and we say, "Where's James?" and he yanks down what's covering his face with a big smile. He then re-covers his face on his own to start again.
Upgrade: We already had to upgrade his infant car seat to a convertible one because he outgrew the length limit. The comfy factor for him will be tested this weekend when we head to IL for Brian's sister's bachelorette party. He's not a big car sleeper so we're hoping this changes things.
Happy: I'm continuously thankful that James is so happy. It makes everything else so much more manageable.
Brian is training for
Dam to Dam. It's a hilly 20k run in Des Moines on June 1st. He's been getting up consistently to run six days a week, regardless of the weather. I'm both very impressed and extremely proud, and a tiny bit jealous. Unless there is a terrible headwind the day of the race, I think he's going to demolish the time goal he set for himself. Proud wifey over here. =)
I'm REALLY looking forward to Alli's bachelorette party this weekend (even if I fall asleep at 8pm from exhaustion), getting healthy and back into my workout routine, more time outside as the weather improves, dedicating James at church on May 12th, celebrating Alli and Matt's wedding on May 25th, and playing sand volleyball this summer. I wasn't really able to play last year because of the whole growing another human thing so I am PUMPED for this summer. There is too much good to spend time complaining.
Love,
