Six weeks and a few actual paragraphs

I keep thinking of all these awesome blog posts I'm going to write but let's face it, having a newborn to care for is just not conducive to keeping up with a blog.  Not well anyway.  He's not even a newborn anymore, he's six weeks old now!  It's crazy how this time is flying and how tired I am.  I just laid him down for the night (praying that he actually stays asleep) and really I should be sleeping too but even though I'm exhausted it's just hard to make myself go to bed at 8pm sometimes, especially when your husband has only been home for a couple hours and over half that time I spent feeding James.

Overall things are going well.  James pretty much has is nights figured out now and he's getting closer to having more of a schedule.  Well that was the case until a couple days ago when he started another growth spurt and threw all of that out the window.  Hopefully him going down so early tonight gets him back on track.  I've been dealing with a lot of clogged milk ducts the last two weeks (literally one every one to two days) and while it may not sound like that big of a deal it's actually insanely painful.  They take about half a day for us (James and I) to work them out which sucks up even more of my time (no pun intended).  I met with a lactation consultant yesterday to talk with her about it and she gave me some advice that will hopefully help - so far so good.

I miss working out.  Being so tired and this whole clogged duct thing taking up all my time has not really allowed me to get back into it.  I'm hoping that changes soon because we have all this awesome equipment in the basement calling my name and the couch keeps winning.

Callie is handling things...okay.  She's very good with James but you can tell she's jealous of the attention he gets.  I purposely was giving her less attention for the last month or two before we had him just to prepare her and because I physically couldn't play with her as much but it doesn't seemed to have worked.  She acts like she's attention starved half the time and it drives me crazy.  I know she'll eventually get used to it and calm down but I'm really hoping that happens sooner than later.

On Monday we finally used up our last freezer meal so I had to actually make dinner this week for the first time since he's been born.  It took me about five minutes to throw all the ingredients into the crock pot. =)  I actually made dinner last night and tonight.  I've learned that I need to start it a lot sooner than I think because it's going to take like twice as long for me to make it and actually find time to eat it. I know it will eventually get easier as we all find our rhythm and I look forward to that.

Brian's parents are coming in tomorrow to hang out and enjoy some crazy thunderstorms on Saturday.  I love this time of year because you can have freezing temps one day and tornadoes the next.  And people think Iowa is boring.

I'm sure I'm leaving out about 57 things I was going to mention but this will just have to do for now.  Life with our little man is crazy but we are so in love that nothing else seems as important. He is so worth the sacrifice.

Love,
-K
